Connect your lights to Amazon Alexa
A step-by-step walkthrough for voice control
From first app
launch to your first “Alexa, turn on the lights.”
Check these first
- Your Magnificent Lighting controller installed and powered on.
- The Magnificent Lighting app installed and your account created.
- The Amazon Alexa app installed and signed in.
- Your phone connected to the same 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi as the controller.
- Your Magnificent Lighting account signed in with an email address (not a phone number), with your email and password on hand — Alexa account linking needs them.
Get your controller online
Confirm that the Magnificent Lighting app can talk to your controller over Wi-Fi before linking anything to Alexa. Everything that follows builds on this connection.
Open the Magnificent Lighting app
Tap the Magnificent Lighting icon on your phone’s home screen. If it isn’t installed yet, download it from the App Store or Google Play and create an account before continuing.
Connect the controller to Wi-Fi
From the Controller screen, ensure your controller is paired and the toggle next to Device is on (yellow). The app needs to be on the same 2.4 GHz network as the controller — most lighting controllers won’t see a 5 GHz band.
Full pairing steps: Connect your device.
Test control before moving on
Open the controller and adjust colour or brightness from the in-app picker. If your lights respond, the app is fully linked to the controller and you’re ready to bring Alexa into the picture.
Enable the Smart Life skill
Magnificent Lighting connects to Alexa through the Smart Life skill. You’ll find it, enable it, and sign in with your Magnificent Lighting account so Alexa can see your lights.
Open the Alexa app
Switch to the Alexa app on your phone. Make sure you’re signed in with the Amazon account that owns your Echo device.
Open Skills & Games
Tap More in the bottom navigation, then Skills & Games. This is the catalogue of third-party integrations that Alexa supports.
Search for “Smart Life”
Tap the search icon in the top-right of the Skills & Games page and type Smart Life into the search box. This is the skill that bridges Alexa and your Magnificent Lighting controller.
Select the Smart Life skill
When the results appear, tap the Smart Life result, then tap ENABLE TO USE. Alexa will prompt you to link your account next.
Sign in with your Magnificent Lighting account
On the Link Account screen, sign in using the same email and password
you used when you set up the Magnificent Lighting app. This is what
gives Alexa permission to see the lights on your account.
Important: Alexa account linking only
works with an email login — if you originally registered the app with
a phone number, you’ll need to add an email address to your account
before this step will succeed.
Choose Magnificent Lighting from the app list
If you’re shown a list of apps to choose from, scroll and select Magnificent Lighting. This tells the skill exactly which account your controllers live in.
Let Alexa find your lights
Once the skill is linked, Alexa scans your account for controllers, lets you assign each one to a room, and finishes the handoff.
Wait while Alexa searches
After linking, Alexa shows “Alexa is looking for devices to connect…”. Allow 30 to 120 seconds for the scan to complete — don’t close the app or switch away.
Confirm the light was found
When the scan finishes, you’ll see something like “1 Smart Life light found and connected.” Tap Next to continue setting it up.
Assign a room
On the Where is your light? screen, pick the room that matches where the controller is installed — Living Room, Kitchen, Main Bedroom, etc. This is what lets you say “Alexa, turn on the living room lights.” Tap Next when done.
Finish the setup
Alexa confirms with “…is set up and ready to use.” Tap Done. The light is now registered as a smart device on your Amazon account and will appear in Devices.
Find your new controller in Devices
Open the Devices tab in Alexa and tap Lights. Your Magnificent Lighting controller will be listed with the name it has in the Magnificent Lighting app. Tap it to confirm everything looks right.
You’re live — try a voice command
Tap the controller and you’ll see Power is On, brightness, and colour controls right inside Alexa. Now ask your Echo: “Alexa, turn on the living room lights.” If your lights respond, setup is complete.
Voice commands to try
Once everything is connected, these are the commands Alexa understands. Replace “living room lights” with whatever you named the device or room in setup.
| Say | What it does |
|---|---|
| “Alexa, turn on the living room lights.” | Power on the controller assigned to that room. |
| “Alexa, turn off the living room lights.” | Power off. |
| “Alexa, set the living room lights to 50 percent.” | Dim or brighten to a specific percentage. |
| “Alexa, set the living room lights to blue.” | Change to a colour by name (red, blue, green, warm white, etc.). |
| “Alexa, dim the living room lights.” | Decrease brightness by a step. |
| “Alexa, brighten the living room lights.” | Increase brightness by a step. |
